- Cleansing – It is the first thing, which will pave the way for a fruitful yoga session. You must drink a glass of warm water, with some lemon juice. This will flush out your entire digestive system. Your body’s alkaline levels will also be restored. You should keep your body hydrated well ahead of your yoga practice. This will also ensure that you do not suffer any cramps. You can do nasal cleansing, or Jal Neti, to start with. Take a Neti pot and fill it up with salty lukewarm water. You have to sit, on the ground, with your soles flat. Tilt the head to one side, and pour the water through the pot’s spout through one nostril. Ensure that the head is tilted, so that the water can come out of the space in the nasal septum, through the opposite nostril. Your nose will be cleansed, due to this practice. So, you can breathe well.
Apart from this Kriya, you can also do Kapalbhati. It is a skull-shining Kriya, and an important breathing practice, too. The inhalation is normal, but the exhalation is more forceful and fast. So, you are able to eliminate all the toxins from your respiratory channel. This prepares the body for the asana practice.
- Child’s pose – If you are just starting out, it will make sense for you to do the Child’s pose. It can loosen the muscles in the lower back and also the hips. You have to get down on your palms and knees, to get into this pose. You have to spread the knees a bit. Your stomach will be between the thighs, as you drop your torso down, with the forehead touching the floor. Stretch both your arms in front of the body, with the palms facing downwards. Breathe normally, but deeply, and stay in the position.
- Cat-Cow pose – This is another pose, which you can try out in the morning. It is a warm- up exercise of sorts, in which you stretch the spine and engage the core muscles as well. As you practice this asana, your chest also opens up. In this pose, you have to support your body in the same manner, as in the Child’s pose. Exhale and push the spine upward. The head should move down, below the level of the chest. Hold the pose. Inhale and allow the spine to move down or sink again. The stomach must also move down in the process, and the head moves up. - Bhujangasana – It is a back-bending pose that even beginners can practice. You can fill your day ahead with lots of creativity, if you do this asana in the morning. It mainly compresses the kidneys and opens the chest. So, you can breathe easily. Back-bends impact your hormones and chemical secretions, so you must do the practice regularly. You have to start in a supine position on your belly, and then lift the upper body with your hands. The head will be up and facing the ceiling, in this posture.
- Alternate Nostril Breathing – You can also call it Anulom Vilom. You have to breathe in and out through alternate nostrils, in this Pranayama. It activates the brain, so that you have lots of creative ideas in the day ahead of you.
Bathing After Yoga Practice
