Using the MNP (Mobile Number Portability)
The first thing you need to do for porting your number from VI to Airtel is to get the MNP or say Mobile Number Portability service. And this is obtained through the USSD code. For this, open your mobile and go to messaging section or app. Open compose a message, and type “PORT” space “Your Mobile Number” and send this message to 1900. Make sure you write PORT completely in CAPS.
Save the UPC (Unique Porting Code)
Once the above process is complete, you shall receive an SMS on your mobile that contains your Unique Porting Code or the UPC. Once you have received the UPC code, you need to visit the nearest Airtel Store physically for moving to the next step of the entire process. Make sure you don’t delete this message as, without the UPC code, the transfer of networks will not be possible.
Visiting the Airtel Store
While visiting the Airtel Store for porting the number, the telecom service providers ask for certain documents that need to be submitted for confirming your identity, address, etc. Hence, while visiting the store, make sure you carry necessary documents like address proof photocopy, passport size photographs, ID proof photocopy like driving license, PAN card, Passport, etc., and photocopy of the last Vodafone bill you have paid. While submitting the documents, a minimal porting charge of Rs.19 needs to be given along with the Airtel Port offer charges you have selected at the time of signing up. At the store, the customer care executive will ask you to fill up the CAF or Customer Agreement Form that needs to be submitted along with the required documents and the UPC code. On submitting all these, you shall receive a new Airtel SIM card. The new SIM card would be activated later.
