Those who are excited about NFT, must study their picks carefully every week. It’s hard to get all selections right in such a dynamic tournament, especially considering how physical it is and how big of a toll an injury could take in one game or a season.
That’s why some aren’t that fond of submitting picks regarding season win totals, as a bad stretch could pretty much derail everything. Teams enter the NFL season with some expectations, and while everybody knows some won’t compete at all, there’s always that one team that’s expected to be a contender and then falls flat on its face.
There are many factors that can affect a team’s season outcome. Sometimes the moves they make in the offseason don’t pan out; sometimes the players get hurt. That’s why making picks and predictions is so tough in this sport.
As early as it still is in this season, we can already jump to conclusions as to which teams are likely to be contenders and which will end up being sellers ahead of the NFL trade deadline. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the top five biggest NFL team disappointments so far this season.
1. Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos were supposed to be much better under Sean Payton, but for those who have been trying their luck at NFL betting in Colorado they know it has not been the case so far. He even ripped Nathaniel Hackett for the job he did last season, yet his team has been even worse. Russell Wilson has looked like the star quarterback he was during his days with the Seattle Seahawks, but the defense has been the worst in the league.
We’re talking about a defensive unit that allowed the Miami Dolphins to put up 70 points on them, the second-highest mark in NFL history. They’re 1-4 and would be winless if the Chicago Bears hadn’t crumbled under pressure late in a game. A loss to the Kansas City Chiefs will end their season with more than two months still left to play.
2. New York Jets
This one’s kind of unfair because it’s not their fault at all. The New York Jets entered the season with high hopes and Super Bowl aspirations, which is what happens whenever you add a first-ballot Hall of Famer at the quarterback position. But Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury just four plays into the campaign.
The Jets have nonetheless managed to win two games through five weeks, which is definitely admirable. But they were supposed to be one of the biggest powerhouses in the AFC. They continue to boast an elite defense and could even end up making the playoffs, but that’s just a consolation prize for a franchise that was already talking about a championship parade.
3. Cincinnati Bengals
Likewise, the Cincinnati Bengals were also stung by the injury bug. QB Joe Burrow suffered a calf injury in the preseason and he looked far from healthy to start the year. He struggled to move around in the pocket, failing to extend plays, and often crumbling under pressure behind a subpar offensive line.
Even so, Zac Taylor’s Bengals have been used to some slow starts to the season, and they have more than enough talent to turn things around. They’ll have to be almost flawless for the next month or so, though. Otherwise, perhaps they should consider sitting Joe Burrow until he’s finally back to full strength.
4. Chicago Bears
Some pundits expected Justin Fields to play at an MVP level this season, and that obviously hasn’t been the case. HC Matt Eberflu has failed to use him to the best of his capacities, and outside from their past couple of games, they boasted one of the worst and most stagnant offenses in the game.
The Chicago Bears could be in line for the first-overall pick again this season, which would likely put an end to Fields’ tenure in the Windy City. So much for a team that traded a first-round pick for multiple assets and revamped both sides of the field to be back in the playoffs this season, which seems unlikely at this point.
5. New York Giants
The New York Giants committed plenty of money on QB Daniel Jones in the offseason. They were on the heels of a promising season in which they even managed to win a playoff game on the road. Now, they could be 0-5 if it wasn’t for an epic second-half comeback against the worst team in the league.
The Giants defense has been nothing short of atrocious, all while Jones has played the worst football of his career. They won’t be able to keep up with the rest of the division, and they should be quite worried about Jones’ regression after getting paid. Brian Daboll looks quite frustrated with him right now.
